Annie Campbell Washington Focus Of Planned Protest After Oakland CM Desley Brooks Criticisms
A group not named to this author is planning a protest of Oakland’s outgoing District 4 Councilmember Annie Campbell Washington being hired by UC Berkeley. According to my source, the group is upset that Councilmember Washington took time to blast Brooks in her statement.
From what I am told, there are those who feel that both Washington and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf are attempting to dictate to the black community who it should elect. Schaaf is openly backing Oakland businessman Loren Taylor in his run against Brooks for the District Six seat she holds now.
Others believe that Brooks “bullying” is not something the Oakland City Council should sit for. That still does not explain the other claim of corruption that Ms. Washington made in her statement of intent to retire made last week. It would seem to apply to more than one person on the City Council.
Mayor Schaaf was quoted by KPIX Five as calling Brooks the “Donald Trump of Oakland”. Interestingly, she told Oakland Post Founder Paul Cobb that she never made that insult about Brooks, in our conversation today.
The group is poised to protest UC Berkeley, but where or when is not known at this point in time.
