While there has been a lot of talk about the desire to recall Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, there hasn’t been any real information on the actual structure of the effort led by Oaklander Gene Hazzard.
The entire recall idea really started before the mess of Occupy Oakland, but it picked up real, considerable steam after that violent Tuesday October 25th that saw clashes between police officers from many Alameda County cities, and Occupy Oakland protestors. And while it looked like the energy to do a recall died down at one point last week, that lasted for all but one day.
By the weekend, when this blogger attended a number of Oakland events, the talk of not just recall but the possibility of success of such an effort and how it would be done, was mentioned by several people on separate occasions.
As one local light said “I have 60 people who can get 200 signatures, and they’re ready to do it.” That’s 12,000 signatures of the estimated 17,000 to 19,000 signatures needed.
And now, a source has leaked the details exclusively to Zennie62.com, and of how the recall effort supposed to work. The email list the specific groups and subgroups and their specific responsibilities. It is presented “as is” below, and without corrections for misspelled words, and where you will see that the email was written in all caps. Again, that’s how the email was sent.
Here’s the content:

One Oakland blog reported that the recall effort faces an uphill battle, but that post was designed to be politically safe. The reality is that there are legions of Oaklanders involved in this project, and even those who aren’t want to see it work.
Last week, I personally told Oakland Mayor Jean Quan that I am not in favor of a recall. Quan said that if she were gone I would not have her “to make fun of.” (Which is sad because I’ve never done than in any of my posts.)
A lot of where I stand on getting involved in the recall effort hinges on what she does over the next few days. Reports have surfaced that power and light were shut off at Oakland City Hall Plaza before the drug-related shootings that ended with a death. Other reports have the Mayor releasing “peace doves” and then there’s the actions of the Oakland Police Union, which is thumbing its nose at the Mayor, acting as if it’s in charge of the city. I’m on the fence about recall now, whereas last week I was against it.
Quan seems to be supporting and encouraging a police state in Oakland. She forgets that the Oakland Police have little love for her going back to her anti-police comments at the 2010 Oakland City Hall Budget hearings. While Quan’s filed response to the recall petition mentions her concern for public safety, the fact is that Oaklanders don’t want to see people killed at their expense.
Stay tuned.
