To that end, Kevin and Nancy Lunny, Owners of Drakes Bay Oyster Company, with Pat Thurston, radio personality, are holding an event to at Waterfront Restaurant and Cafe, 7 Pier, San Francisco, CA, on Monday, June 15th at 2:30 PM, to rally their supporters and tell their side of the story.
Speakers at the event will also urge local elected officials to support the investigation into the false science used to evaluate the environmental impact of shellfish cultivation in Drakes Estero.
For years, the Lunny family, who owns and manages the historic Drakes Bay Oyster Farm has been in a heated legal battle with the Interior Department and the National Park Service over their unjust attempts to close down the farm.
In a decision made last November, then-Interior Secretary Ken Salazar refused to issue a permit to allow Drakes Bay to continue farming upon the expiration of its 40-year-lease–a lease which allowed it to operate on public land within the Point Reyes National Seashore and which was explicitly renewable.
The Lunnys believe that Salazar based his decision on flawed environmental impact studies which used false science to evaluate the environmental impact of shellfish cultivation in Drakes Estero.
The Lunnys need supporters to urge their local elected officials to support the investigation into the science used to evaluate the environmental impact study. There is no excuse for false science, especially by the federal government. Scientific integrity should not be a partisan issue.
Come to the rally, Monday in San Francisco!
Stay tuned.
