Each November, some NHL players participate in Movember, an annual event where they grow moustaches to raise awareness about prostate cancer. Some players from the Washington Capitals participated in the month long event.
Last Sunday, five Capitals including John Carlson, Jeff Shultz, Joel Ward, Karl Alzner and Troy Brouwer, participated in a guest bartending event at Liberty Tavern inArlington,VA. The event raised funds for the Prostate Cancer Awareness Foundation and LIVESTRONG. The players poured beers and mixed drinks for the bar patrons who purchased tickets to this private event.
A fun time was had by the players and their fans. I was fortunate to attend this event and I had a blast! It was cool seeing hockey players from my team pour beers and mix drinks.
Most hockey players are very down to earth and easy to approach and this was the case of all the players at Liberty Tavern. I am a huge Capitals fan and was excited to get my jersey signed by all five players and I got pictures with three of them.
I chatted with new Caps, Brouwer and Ward and I asked them how they liked playing inWashington. Brouwer, won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and I asked Brouwer what he did on his day with the Stanley Cup. It is cool to hear what the winners did with the Cup; definitely a way to motivate the other players on the team as they work hard on another quest for the elusive prize.
A round of applause to all NHL players who participated in Movember, especially the Capitals who took time out of their busy schedules to mix and mingle with their fans and raise money for a good cause.
