Horrible thing to happen on the Wednesday Christmas Eve Eve in Oakland. This message about an attempted car jacking is going around the listservs as the suspects are still at large. A description of the “young males” wasn’t given. If anyone has one, please post it in the message field below the report, here:
Woman attacked in Glenview. Assault, battery, attempted carjacking on Vista Street at Wellington, 3:30pm today. The victim had just finished swimming at Lions Pool in Dimond Park, and was walking back to her car parked on Vista. Two young males followed her from the park, and attacked her as she was getting into her car. They punched her in the face and knocked her down. She screamed for help. Nearby dogs started barking, and several neighbors came out to investigate. The criminals tried to flee in the victim’s car but could not get it going. They abandoned the car and fled the scene as neighbors came to the woman’s aid.
Oakland Police were summoned and they responded quickly. The criminals had run away up Wellington by the time police arrived. The woman suffered minor injuries and was quite shaken up. Police were responsive, and canvassed neighbors’ houses asking residents if they had seen anything or if they had any security camera footage that might have captured the crime or criminals.
Meanwhile neighbors gave the woman first aid for her injuries, and rendered what help they could. Another young man who had witnessed the two criminals acting suspiciously in the park, came to the scene and offered police a description. The victim left, saying that she was going to the hospital.
Neighbors, this crime was committed in broad daylight in a quiet corner of the Glenview. It could just as easily happened on any street in our neighborhood. These criminals have likely engaged in this kind of behavior more than once, and they may try it here again.
