During the Saturday predictions ESPN’s Lee Corso said “Never bet against the Catholics.” Well, he was right: Notre Dame beat Michigan 13-6 and is now undefeated for the first time since Stanford Head Coach Tyrone Willingham guided the program to a 10–2 regular season record, including an 8–0 start for what seemed to be a national championship course before the University failed and never gave him a chance to finish his contract.
Truth.
A truth that will not hit the life of Brian Kelly, the Notre Dame Head Coach who was given time and patience to actually build and mold the team in a way Willingham didn’t have time to do, and Charlie Weis could not do.
This Notre Dame team had the same kind of tough defense that Willingham’s charges had when they were successful. Denard Robinson and Michigan, which rolled up 948 yards of total offense in recent past victories over Notre Dame, were held scoreless and gained just 299 total yards (though at 238, The Irish didn’t do well, either).
Now the question is this: how far can Notre Dame go?
