Christian Ponder Oakland Raiders QB Threat To Derek Carr

Christian Ponder was brought to the Oakland Raiders by new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. This is no accident because in 2013 the same Christian Ponder was the Minnesota Vikings QB and Musgrave was the offensive coordinator when Leslie Frazier was the head coach.

This means several things:

First, the Raiders needed someone who knew Musgrave’s offense and terminology. Derek Carr did not, nor did any of the other QBs on the rouster.

Second, Christian Ponder was the Vikings’ 2010 1st Round NFL Draft Pick. He has NFL experience in Musgrave’s style of offense and terminology, yet he is still young.

Third: it means the Raiders are not content to give the offense to Derek Carr. It also means that Musgrave doesn’t think he can teach Carr such that he is the designated starter. The Oakland Raiders are not going to give Derek Carr Andrew Luck-level status.

This marks Derek Carr’s second offensive coordinator and offense in as many years.

That’s a bad way to go. The Raiders aren’t committed to Derek Carr. Period.
