If Oakland’s Really Talking MLB Expansion, Where’s The Big Plan Mayor Thao?
Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao claims that the City of Oakland’s in “talks” about landing the right to form a Major League Baseball Expansion Franchise. That’s no small potatoes, but here we go again with the newbees, the current Mayor of Oakland and her crew, playing lone ranger once again, and thinking they can dupe the public into believing they’ll get the right to an MLB Expansion Franchise their way. Ok, so where’s the beef? Or, where’s the big picture?
As Chicago planner Danial Burnham is famous for saying, “Make No Little Plans”:
Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men’s blood and probably will not themselves be realized. Make big plans, aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us.
Say, what you will about concept drawings, they at least serve to provide a vision of what the public is to expect, and more importantly, that the maker of the image has at least given the mattter considerable thought. The Ciry of Oakland under Mayor Sheng Thao has not done that.
Heck, even though Howard Terminal didn’t get done, give Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf credit for backing the Oakland A’s big vision version of the ballpark. You’d have had to be an android not to get jazzed about the ballpark design Bjarke Ingeles came up with.
At the end of the day, if Libby got Howard Terminal done, she could have written her political ticket. Those drawings for Howard Terminal gave Mayor Schaaf currency she then proceeded to blow by picking the wrong people to get it done. By comparison, what does Mayor Thao have? Nothing. No drawings to show. This, while she yaps that the A’s haven’t released their new drawings yet. You’re in talks with MLB for an Oakland Expansion Team, Mayor Thao? Show your cards: your drawings. Another example of Oakland not having its own house in order.
Mayor Thao doesn’t seem to understand that getting elected Mayor of Oakland does not mean you’re doing the job of being Mayor of Oakland. It’s the old saying: you got in the office, now you have to prove you have what it takes to stay there. In this instance, Mayor Thao’s not coming up with anything to show for her time as the Mayor of Oakland presiding over the ballpark situation. And what is she doing to do about the Coliseum JPA?
Did you know the time is approaching where the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority is set to sunset? Yep. This Oakland vlogger’s the only person who worked with Oakland Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan to at least point a picture to a positive tax-increment-financed-fuled future. An Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District ran by a Public Financing Authority / Stadium Authority. That’s on the table. Did Sheng Thao and her crew pick up the ball and run with it? Nope. We’re waiting. But MLB’s not going to wait for long.
Fire up the vision for Oakland’s tourism future, Mayor Thao. Get those drawings made. Call my friends Ben Garcia and D’Shon Dixon, and have them come up with something massively cool: a Ballpark Village at Coliseum City that points the way toward an exciting future. And then call me to come up with the financing plan.

Raymond Bobbitt And Oakland AASEG: Documents Show He Froze Out Original Partners

The effort to save the Raiders, then sue the Raiders, that gave birth to the Oakland-based African American Sports and Entertainment Group, sadly degenerated into a power play by one man, determined to elevate his statature. That man is Raymond Bobbitt.
A recently filed lawsuit claims that Mr. Bobbitt, a San Francisco nighclub owner and Raiders fan joined with Raider Nation leaders the late “Godfather Griz” Greg Jones, Russell Rivera, Brien Dixon, Karim Muhammed, and Levant Ogbulie, only to double cross all but Levant Obulie. Now, Zennie62Media has unearthered documents that the plaintiffs claim back the lawsuit, and to anyone who’s seen them, they do.
What Ray Bobbitt appears to have done is like what Mark Zuckerberg did to Edwardo Sandoval and the Winklevoss Twins in starting Facebook: start AASEG right under their collective noses.
In conversations with Karim Muhammed and Brien Dixon in preparation for this post (one not sponsored by any party other than Zennie62Media, Inc. of which Mr. Bobbitt is a shareholder), both were caught completely by surprise when they learned of the filling of not just one, but four different versions of the African American Sports and Entertainment Group, and with different names, most notably AASEG Land. All four LLC’s have just one manager: Raymond Bobbitt.
What happened is that, first on September 29th, 2020, Mr. Bobbitt entered into a process to form an LLC called “ African American Sports and Entertainment Group” and with Muhammed, Dixon, and Obulie. Russell Rivera wasn’t an official part of the effort, not did he want to be from this author’s recall. Meanwhile Godfather Griz sadly passed away on July 20th, 2020 after a battle with cancer at 54.
This author, while part of the larger group of Raiders Fans contributing to the effort to keep the team in Oakland, was not part of the formation of AASEG. This author was focused on building the then-newly-formed media startup Zennie62Media, Inc. Mr. Bobbitt was added as a Zennie62Media, Inc. shareholder according to a letter dated July 14th 2021 to reward him for “compensation as required for your active work in helping me grow our business.”
Ray Bobbitt Was Focused On Power, And According To The Documents and Lawsuit, For Himself
As the Muhammed / Dixon lawsuit lays out in detail, Ray Bobbitt and Levant Ogbulie made a number of changes to documents that, in total, consolidated power and control to Mr. Bobbitt. The trouble is, according to the lawsuit, which provides a good detailed history, Karim and Brien were not signing the papers. In other words, as they recently said, they knew what Ray was alledgedly doing: working to get them to sign a paper to frees
Last November 2023, before Thanksgiviing, I said to Ray Bobbitt that he should contact the Muhammed / Dixon team and work out an agreement for all to come together as one, so as to not embarrass the Oakland Black Business Community and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority.
Bobbitt turned our conversation to one where he claimed “they don’t like you”. My response was that I could care less, that had zero to do with his actions, and I was going to continue to press the issue. Bobbitt said that he was tired of arguing and that led to the move he made. But it was still wrong to do.
The Bobbitt American Sports and Entertainment Group
What Ray has tried to do is create not the AASEG or African American Sports and Entertainment Group, but the Bobbitt American Sports and Entertainment Group. With this cosmetic, though illegal, change (let’s face it, Mark Zuckerberg has to pay $60 million to Edwardo Sandoval after a stirring court session), Ray, the man who managed to put on a Mr. Rogers Face for the cameras, showed AASEG Land to the public, not the African American Sports and Entertainment Group.
Ray Bobbitt’s Way Of Pushing Dixon And Muhammed Out Of AASEG Is Illegal
What Ray Bobbitt has done is not legal. Mr. Muhammed and Mr. Dixon didn’t break the law in any way – the common reason for seeking a change in partnerships. Many law firms openly state that “In most cases, a business partner can’t push you out” as Wood Edwards LLP states on its website. But Ray tried to pretend Karim and Brien didn’t exist at all.
What Does The Lawsuit Against Raymond Bobbitt Call For?
The lawsuit that was filed at Alameda County Superior Court calls for a jury trial. On top of that, Dixon and Muhammad seek the World: damages, lawyer’s fees, removal of Bobbitt and Ogbulie from the African American Sports and Entertainment Group, audit of bank accounts, declaratory judgment that Samantha Wise, Johnathan Jones, John Jones III, and LaNice Jones should not be members of AASEG LLC.

If Oakland AASEG’s Ray Bobbitt Is For Black-Business, Why Run To White-Owned Media On A’s Lease Talks?
Ok, this vlogger happened to watch Django Unchained last night, and for the first time in a long time. What does that Quintin Tarentino / Jamie Foxx movie have to do with the Oakland A’s Lease talks that are to happen this Thursday? Everything. See, Ray Bobbitt and his version of the African American Sports and Entertainment Group aka AASEG purports to be focused on helping black business in Oakland. But, like Steven in Django, played by Samuel L. Jackson, Bobbitt sends the message that no other black person can be seen as bigger than he. Wow. ,
This black majority-owner of media startup Zennie62Media has seen enough of not just once-friend Ray Bobbitt’s running to white-owned media to share his story, but now he uses it to put down other black people who were part of the African American Sports and Entertainment Group. In his way, Ray Bobbitt is exhibiting the new problem black folks face: other black people trying to put them down.
The scab on this wound in society has to be pulled back and shown to the World. You can’t say you’re for black business if you don’t take your news story to a black media organization, and yes, I’m referring to Zennie62Media. I’m proud of what I built, but I’m not happy with how Ray has treated this startup CEO. But beyond that, he used the San Francisco Chronicle, a white-owned media organization, to try and diminish the worth of AASEG Co-Founders Brien Dixon and Malik Karim. In that way, Bobbitt’s actions were not unlike those of former Oakland NAACP members using white-owned KVTU to blast current NAACP members who were unhappy with current Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao. Both should bring their issues to black media – The Oakland Post and Zennie62Media, Inc. – and let us be the forum to bring us together.
Like those former Oakland NAACP members, Ray Bobbitt also stumps for Mayor Thao in an effort to speak against calls for her recall as Mayor of Oakland. Ray is supposed to be working to develop the Oakland Coliseum Complex, not creating his own celebrity without having lifted a real finger. What I’m saying here is something I’ve talked with him about, but it’s sadly clear Ray Bobbitt will not listen and will not change. Take how he used the mention of Black Loop Capital to put down Brien Dixon and Malik Karim, saying that their lawsuit was “trivial.” Wow.
In other words, Ray’s actions in working to separate himself from Brien Dixon and Malik Karim , all the way down to setting up a different organization called AASEG, and the anger that caused the filing of the lawsuit are trivial? What’s also upsetting is this vlogger spent some time trying to convince Mr. Bobbitt to call Brien Dixon and Malik Karim and mend fences. My pleas were met with questions of loyalty to him, as if he’s some king or something and this Oakland Vlogger’s one of his subjects. We’re in a Democracy, and that means everyone has a say.
