The first World Series game of the 2012 series was played last night and this blogger was in attendance. The contest was to feature Detroit Tigers Pitcher Justin Verlander, widely considered the best in Major League Baseball. But former Oakland Athletic Barry Zito beat him, and ace Tim Lincecum came in to play clean up relief.
Meanwhile, Pablo Sandoval and Marco Scotero were the instigators of an amazing run explosion that shocked everyone, including seasoned observers.
The result? The Giants win 8 to 3.
But I have to observe, the sheer joy of being at the World Series was muted by the audience, which in total seemed to take it all in stride. There was cheering when something good happened, but other than that, it was a ton of people with Giants gear just watching the game.
I think, had Oakland been in the World Series against the Giants, the A’s fans would have been rocking both AT&T Park and the Oakland Coliseum. The A’s fans act like they want it; the Giants fans act like they expect to get it.
Stay tuned.
