Steak Shapiro Apologizes To Brooke Baldwin On CNN For Steve Gleason Prank

Steak Shapiro, or Steve Shapiro, the former co-host of 790 The Zone’s Mayhem In The AM radio show, and host of the new local TV show Atlanta Eats, has said that he would be offended by the mock interview with the ALS-afflicted Steve Gleason, the retired Saints Safety, on Monday. Here’s the story, if you don’t know it by now:

Shapiro went over to CNN Headquarters in Atlanta to talk with Brooke Baldwin and to apologize for what was done on the now defunct 790 The Zone’s Mayhem In The AM morning radio show.

On Brooke’s how, Steak Shapiro said that the segment wasn’t “thought through” before it was done.:

Steve Gleason Accepts Apologies Of Nick Cellini, Steak Shapiro and Chris Dimino

On his Team Gleason Facebook Page, Steve Gleason wrote that he accepts the apologies of the 790 The Zone Mayhem In The AM crew of Nick Cellini, Steak Shapiro and Chris Dimino:

Regarding the DJ skit in Atlanta yesterday. I would like to thank the public for their support. ‘Defend Team Gleason’ now has been officially redefined. Additionally, the DJs have provided genuine apology. Received and accepted. We have all made mistakes in this life. How we learn from our mistakes is the measure of who we are.

I think everyone can learn from this event. Its clear to me that, on a national & global scale, ALS is not understood, which is part of why its under funded and largely ignored. In the past 36 hours lots of people have been talking. Lets talk about this… There are zero treatments for ALS. If you take any action as a result of this event, I prefer it to be action to end ALS. See what we are doing to change that @ teamgleason.org. SG

Steak Shapiro Moves On

Meanwhile, Steve “Steak” Shapiro has his new Atlanta Eats television show to fall back on and by the looks of things, it’s really taking off. The show features segments on different kinds of Atlanta Restaurants and he’s just hired, as of Wednesday, former Dave FM Atlanta DJ Mara Davis to work with him.

UPDATE: CBS/Atlanta has reportedly cut ties with 790 The Zone in the wake of this media disaster. Prior to that move, Shapiro appeared on CBS / Atlanta to do sports segments as a representative of 790 The Zone. Since Atlanta Eats also appears on CBS/Atlanta, and is the creation of Steve Shapiro, there’s no word if that will become collateral damage in this case.

Stay tuned.
