1) When scream-queen Danielle Harris, who plays ‘Marybeth’ in the film, tweeted she was going to f-up Victor Crowley, the man-monster villain of the series.
2) Scary-looking photos from Hatchet III, which was shot just outside New Orleans during June of 2012.
But for those of you who don’t know what Hatchet III or the Hatchet Movie Series is all about, here’s a refresher from my last blog entry:
Victor Crowley’s the man-monster focus of the horror movie series created whole-cloth from the brain of Adam Green. Crowley’s story is really a very sad one: he starts the story as a deformed boy, teased by kids in the area. Young Victor was chased into a shack, which the mean kids set fire to while he was in it. The hard-to-blog part is where his father, in trying to rescue him, uses an ax to chop down the door, not realizing his son was on the other side of it.
(As a note, the way I’m wired is such that I could never imagine such an event. I think it has to do with being made fun of by Chicago kids when I was a boy on the South Side, and feeling outcast and being ostracized, and then bullied for money by school kids. Life did not improve for me until we left Chicago when I was 12 years old. So, it’s for that reason, the origin of Victor Crowley is a sad one for me.)
At any rate, Victor’s father passed on, but unknown to him, he survived, but grew into a man-monster who terrorized the swamps of Louisiana. (Can’t say I root against him.)
And now we have the Hatchet III Teaser Trailer:
And if regular followers of my blog recall, in 2010, I had a total blast with the cast of Hatchet II:
And Ms. Harris quite literally flew off at the mouth…
That was fun, but this Hatchet III movie is serious.
The official description says this:
Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder return in HATCHET III and are joined by Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th 2009), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) and others.
HATCHET III continues the tale of the now-iconic villain Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). As a search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and carnage left behind from the first two films, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) hunts down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left the ghost of Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.
But, judging by the look of the trailer, where Hatchet I and II were more quasi-parodies of 80s horror movies, Hatchet III appears to be something that’s built around the character and his situation, but devoid of the comedic take. The result is what appears to be a serious horror movie.
This is going to be good.
Stay tuned.
Note: HATCHET III will open June 14th at two art house film theaters: the New York City’s Cinema Village in Greenwich Village and in Los Angeles at Laemmle Music Hall at 9036 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills. The opening week will have feature special appearances by cast and crew, followed by Q&A’s at each location. Additional theater cities will be announced later.
