Michele Bachmann, Serena Williams make CNN Breaking News

The CNN Breaking News emails are popping with updates about Michele Bachmann, Serena Williams, and decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court. Rather than reinvent the wheel, here are the updates as they appeared from CNN to this blogger’s email box:

Michele Bachmann

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota formally announced her entry into the 2012 Republican presidential nomination field today.

Bachmann, who founded the Tea Party Caucus in the House, is the ninth Republican to enter the race.

The three-term congresswoman made her announcement from her birthplace in Waterloo, Iowa, the state whose caucus is the first contest in the Republican nominating process. Bachmann recently finished a point behind front-runner Mitt Romney in a Des Moines Register poll.

U.S. Supreme Court

U.S. Supreme Court strikes down California law that would have banned selling violent video games to children.

The 7-2 ruling today was a victory for video game makers and sellers, who said the ban — which has yet to go into effect — would

extend too far. They say the existing nationwide, industry-imposed, voluntary ratings system is an adequate screen for parents to judge the

appropriateness of computer game content

And…

The Supreme Court has tossed out an Arizona law that provides extra taxpayer-funded support for office seekers who have been outspent by privately funded opponents or by independent political groups.

A conservative 5-4 majority of justices on Monday said the law violated free speech, concluding the state was impermissibly trying to “level the playing field” through a public finance system.

Arizona lawmakers had argued there was a compelling state interest in equalizing resources among competing candidates and interest groups.

Venus and Serena Williams

Venus and Serena Williams both have been eliminated from play at Wimbledon.

Defending champion Serena Williams was defeated in straight sets by France’s Marion Bartoli.

Venus Williams lost to Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova for the second successive year.

And before you feel sorry for Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, ranked number one in the World in tennis play (and legs), was just eliminated from another Grand Slam contest, losing to Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, even though she’d beaten “Dom” six out of eight previous times!

Stay tuned.
