A video surfaced on the page of my Facebook news feed, and placed their by my friend Jen Friel of the blog Talk Nerdy To Me Lover. Called EHarmony Video Bio, Ms. Friel placed it there because she had watched it 15 times in total fascination with what I will call the performance of it’s central and only character, YouTube’s hartmanncara, who says “I’m Debbie, i love cats and i just want a soulmate!”
Yeah, right.
When I asked Jen Friel, via Facebook, why she liked the video so much, Jen wrote:
“transparent display of passion and love for a single thing.”
Ok, but my response was…
Cool. But what I’m struggling with, given that it’s her YouTube channel, and not some wayward EHarmony video post, is just how “transparent” is it?
To this blogger, YouTube’s Hartmanncara was just plain faking it, from the “EHarmony video” not made for the dating site, to her crying on and on, and maybe even her love for cats.
Hey, if Hartmanncara, or “Debbie” really loved cats that much, why not have a cute, cuddly in the video? That would sell me, for sure.
Hartmanncara was acting – and I had to say so, thus my video – and to great response because the video’s already reached something like a half-million views and earned her a revenue-share ad from YouTube. Maybe the next thing to happen will be an offer to do a commercial.
Not bad. I’m now interested in how well the video does.
For me the YouTube video wasn’t convincing, the act, but Jen Friel and Mashable bought it hook, line, and sinker.
Yep. The blog Mashable bought the act, saying “If you like cats, this video’s for you.”
Crazy, man!
