Someone leaked the Carson NFL LA Stadium Economic Impact Analysis done by The LAEDC Institute for Applied Economics, and I discovered it and re-uploaded the copy to Scribd. There was one before but only seen 17 times; I’d figured I could up that a lot.
The bottom line is that the study, reportedly done at the request of counsel (guess who’s?), was sloppy. For example, it reads that because the LA Metropolitan area has 21 million people, the stadium should “reasonably” be expected to sell out.
Raiders Paid For Part Of Study, As Well As Video, And Lapel Pin
But one thing that stood out in my mind is this sentence:
“This research was commissioned by San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders.”
That means the Oakland Raiders have been entirely punking the City of Oakland. While giving signals they wanted to remain in Oakland, the Raiders have paid for part of this study, paid for part of the promotional video, and pinned a lapel pin on the Mayor of Carson last week.
I think we will next learn the Raiders paid for the new dual-logo jerseys worn by the fans at the pep rally before the Carson City Council meeting.
This marks the biggest political head-fake in the history of sports and politics. But the cat’s out of the bag now, and the ball is in Oakland’s court.
That aside, the report reads that the project will generate $72 million for the local economy and employ over 7,000 people. Or..Quoting the study…
