Dear NFL Competition Committee, Please Define What A Catch Is

The NFL Competition Committee will take up the matter of setting its agenda for the NFL Annual Meeting in Arizona next week during a media conference call to be held today, and by making proposed rule changes for consideration by the owners.

There’s one matter that I think the NFL Competition Committee needs to take up next week: the definition of a catch.

The Dez Bryant Catch that was ruled not a catch in the 2015 NFL NFC Divisional Playoff Game pitting the Dallas Cowboys against the Green Bay Packers would have put Dallas in the NFC Championship Game, and perhaps the Super Bowl. That’s how big a call it was, and the refs screwed it up.

Or did they? The rule is unnecessarily convoluted and confusing. A catch is a catch.

Period.
