Google Kills Blog Search Option, Matt Cutts Attacks Guest Blogging After Cat Bites Him

google-logo-370x229 Google hates blogs and bloggers and it’s found two new ways to show that it does.

Google quietly removed the long-standing “blogs” option in the top menu. In the past, and for most of Google’s history, one had a choice between “news” and “blogs” in the top menu. But, and as of Tuesday evening January 21st, that’s gone.

google-blog-section-gone What replaces it is, nothing. There’s no single way to access Google Blog Search from the main Google search page.

For bloggers who want to see what the blogsphere is writing about, this should be alarming. And even more alarming is that when you do go to Google Blog Search, for those who know it exists, you find the top-most content dominated by mainstream media sites and not blogs.

Google maintains the “news” option, leaving us with repeat, after boring repeat of content spread by the Associated Press. The kind of fixing of the news that Google is doing should be illegal, and it’s only around because of the overall abject stupidity of our government’s regulators, which seem to act more in bewilderment of what Google does than with anger.

And the only way to understand why what Google does is bad is to be a constant, daily user of its product in the production and distribution of content. I check my blog listings on Google every day, which is how I noticed that I can’t do that any more from the Google search engine page.

Google hates blogs and bloggers, and as evidence of my claim is the fact that Google could, with a simple alteration of code that equals a flip of a switch, make every Blogger blog part of Google News. The permalink reason they offer is just a bullshit party line, and I know this – and have the emails to prove it.

Blogger blogs on Google News would be a great revenue generator for bloggers, but it would basically kill mainstream media, and don’t think Google doesn’t know it.

I told this to now-Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer when she was with Google and at the 2010 TechCrunch Disrupt New York, and she just smiled.

Matt Cutts Off His Rocker

Google Search Engineer Matt Cutts has been around Google and the search engine business long enough for me to say that he’s gone off his rocker. Maybe Matt’s become fat and happy and rich, and so comfortable that something like his hungry cat biting him pisses him off enough to be upset with… guest blogging.

Matt Cutts has gone on a rant and is now declaring guest blogging dead, as if he’s god. That means the guest blog you asked the Mayor of Hoboken to write about Chris Christie’s doomed for the Google scrap bin if it’s called “guest blog post” or something like that.

I mean how freaking stupid is that?

I never thought I’d see the day where I’d blog Matt Cutts and the word “stupid” in the same blog post, but that’s what I’m doing right now, this night.

It’s like Matt’s ran out of things to do at Google. His ranting on about guest blogging was the most unintelligent take I’ve ever seen from someone at Google.

See this from Matt (like ‘see cat run’):

Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.

Uh, Ok. See, Matt’s pissed off over some email he got from a marketer. So because Matt Cutts basically hates Internet marketers and probably regards them as scum of the Earth, but doesn’t say that, choosing to call their work scummy, he decides to attack every fucking guest blog post there is.

So, if I am lucky enough to get President Obama as a guest blogger, in Matt Cutts world that’s a bad thing.

Matt, go make nice with your cat.

Ok?

And leave us bloggers alone, please. Overall, Google has done a lot of revenue damage to bloggers, and I have the emails from upset blog publishers, collected over the years, to prove it.

And while you’re at it, restore the damn Google blog search option and stop playing footsy with the Associated Press.

Stat tuned.
