The Tuesday trade deadline quietly came and went, the Baltimore Ravens waited till Wednesday to make some noise and shake up their roster.
Returning from their bye week ready to start the second half of the season, the Ravens sent a clear message to their locker room…a lack of production will not be tolerated.
The Ravens waived safety Michael Huff and defensive end Marcus Spears.
Huff did not live up to the expectations the Ravens had for him when they acquired him from the Oakland Raiders; he made many mistakes this season.
According to BaltimoreRavens.com:
Huff was the primary man at fault on the Steelers’ 44-yard kickoff return that set up their game-winning field goal. He got out of his lane and did not maintain containment along the sideline. Head coach Harbaugh called it “unforgivable” and Huff took the blame afterwards.
He was replaced after missing a tackle in the week one game against the Denver Broncos. The missed tackle resulted in a touchdown.
Spears did not live up to expectations either. He did not see a lot of playing time and was out-performed by rookie defensive tackle Brandon Williams.
He also missed two games due to a knee injury and had trouble in his first game back in Pittsburgh.
The Ravens moved safety Omar Brown and safety Brynden Trawick from the practice squad to the active roster.
Brown is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Marshall last season; played on the Ravens practice squad.
Trawick is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Troy. He was the player who ran into Jacoby Jones on a punt return. Jones suffered an ankle sprain from the incident.
Coach Harbaurgh said that both had done a good job at practice and can also be used on special teams.
I like the hard stand the Ravens have this season, they don’t put up with mediocre performances on the field; I just hope the roster moves turn into wins.
