The Play Conference, an annual tech event produced by the Haas School Of Business at U.C. Berkeley, was a rousing success, attracting over 600 attendee, reportedly double the number of previous conferences.
The reason? For the first time, Play Conference was held away from U.C. Berkeley and in San Francisco at the Hotel Nikko in the Union Square area, and just a short walk from Powell St. BART.
The idea of Play Conference has been to feature the work of Haas School Of Business students who want to go into the tech industry, creating their own product apps around which the next hot startup could be launched.
Reads like just the event for Robert Scoble, the tech blogger who’s gained niche fame in the tech community for being a first user of just about every notable gadget around – most notably, Google Glass.
Well, for the second year (that I’m aware of) Robert Scoble was there, hosting conversations with tech execs and mingling with students and event attendees.
It’s great to see Robert giving so much to a community that appreciates it. Not to imply that he’s doing it for free, but that he makes himself available and really seems to enjoy it.
As for the conference itself, my objective was to focus on and talk to the students and app creators, and my video will reflect that. Look, Robert, Facebook’s CTO Tim Campos, and others have names – the students are trying to make a name for themselves.
It personally saddens me to know that someone created a kick ass app, and there was no one around who cared to report about it. That’s where I stepped in.
