Dwight Howard’s one year with the LA Lakers as its big man, and fulfilling a dream many NBA fans wanted to see, including this blogger, is over. Dwight Howard, that ringless wonder of a player, who’s mood dictates which person will show up on what day, has decided, on Friday, to dump LA for Houston.
This is what he wrote on Twitter:
I’ve decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets. I feel its the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I’m looking forward to a great season. I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best.”
In spurning the LA Lakers for the Houston Rockets, Dwight Howard upset The Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant. Bryant took to Instagram to issue a cryptic message:
kobebryant
#vamos #juntos #lakercorazon #vino
Translated, it seems to mean, “Let’s go, secret society of fellow Lakers! Time to drink some wine!”
And plot on how to replace the vaunted big man in the middle who never played up to the lofty reputations of West, Kareem, and Shaq.
Meanwhile, Dwight Howard goes to join a team with James Hardin, and now Josh Smith from The Atlanta Hawks. But will Dwight Howard be the difference there? I think Mr. Howard made a mistake in passing up the Golden State Warriors, who restructured its roster to make room for Dwight Howard, and the pairing of Curry, Howard, and Andre Iguodala under the direction of the great Mark Jackson, and in the noise-chamber that is Oracle Arena, had “Finals” written all over it.
Instead, Howard goes to The Houston Rockets for a four-year deal reportedly worth valued at $88 million.
But the question is will he get a ring in 2014. The answer here, is no.
Stay tuned.
