New York Gov. Andrew Quomo Signs Stronger Gun Law

Andrew CuomoNot waiting for President Obama to act, New York Governor Andrew Quomo has signed a stronger state-wide gun law into action. The new legislation will fortify New York State’s existing assault weapons ban, limit the number of bullets in magazines and strengthen rules that keep the mentally ill from owning firearms.

New York’s Democrat-dominated Assembly passed the new law on a 104-43 vote , after the New York Senate passed it by a wide margin. It’s the first anti-gun law to be passed in the wake of the Newtown, CT shootings. Quomo said “I am proud to be a New Yorker today. I am proud to be part of this government, not just because New York has the first bill, but because New York has the best bill.”

This wave of desire for gun laws will be fade as long as people use guns to kill people. 800 people have been murdered between Newtown and today. If the GOP doesn’t come over to the side of gun control, the issue will shatter that party for the future.

Stay tuned.
