Oakland NHL Hockey Team: Time For One Oakland NHL Hockey Team: Time For One
Oakland needs an NHL Hockey Team. Again.
Oakland had the NHL Oakland Seals from 1967 to 1971, but has not had a team since then.
Yet, with that, the San Francisco Bay Area has proven that it can handle two teams in one sports: the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders in the NFL. The San Francisco Giants and The Oakland Athletics in the MLB. And then there’s college football and college basketball with the California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal, and San Jose State and Santa Clara , and of course the University of San Francisco. And there are more examples.
Plus, the NHL needs to consider moving teams that are losing money in Arizona, North Carolina and Florida. Why not permit the Arizona team to move to Oakland and be rebranded. I’m not concerned about the name, so much as the deal. But Oakland Seals does have a nice ring, while Oakland Robbers or Oakland Bandits would be a funny play on our crime problems.
Or how about the Oakland Killer Whales – just the thing to go after The Sharks!
Regardless, Oakland can support an NHL Team. This town’s too big for the San Jose Sharks alone. http://ift.tt/1vfVcVV
