Who’s The Woman In Sir-Mix-A-Lot “Baby-Got-Back” Video? Shawn Bounds

sir mix a lot seattleSir Mix-A-Lot performed “Baby Got Back” before the Seattle Symphony last week Saturday. The event, the result of the Seattle Symphony’s Sonic Evolution Project, mixed rap and classical in such a way that new ways to use instruments were found, the audience went nuts, and so did America.

Sir Mix-A-Lot invited women to come up to the stage and join him, promising that he would not bite unless they asked. When the orchestra started playing the music for the classic rap song, and Sir Mix-A-Lot got into lyrical gear, one woman distinguished herself in a memorable way.

She had her moves down, and even jumped out to the front of the stage so that all, especially Sir Mix-A-Lot could see her work it.

And she did just that!

As the video to the happening went viral, everyone wanted to know who the woman in the black dress was.

It was Shawn Bounds. Ms. Bounds is the “Dancer Woman In Black Dress” who’s totally uninhibited moves took the World by storm. The sales manager at the local Silver Cloud Casino is 34 and says she’s been a Sir Mix-A-Lot fan for 20 years, which would put her back to the age of 14 when she started practicing the gyrations that eventually landed stardom for her.

What’s next? Who knows.

But while Ms. Bounds wonders what to do with the fame she’s generating, it’s important to note that the one who’s really gained from all of this is Sir-Mix-A-Lot himself. The legendary rapper’s 25 year history was on a long-term down-slide until this happened. Now, according to his Google Trends ranking, he’s zoomed back to A-list celeb status:

Since Bounds isn’t the main focus of the video, and only one local TV station did an interview with her, it’s not likely she’s going to gain much from the brief exposure except some local fame. Her names’ not registering on Google Trends, so what notice she gets isn’t direct, but related to the video. When interest in it dies down, so will what fame she’s gained.

If she wants to push that forward a bit, she’s got to make a press release and tell the national media it’s her in the video. But even then, the window where the media would care is about another week in its life, from this writing.

Or, she could make a new video with a close up of her doing the moves and then actually redo them in her living room, just for viral fun. Come to think of it, she could make an exercise video out of the deal and sell it. Teach a whole generation how to dance to rap, and get rich doing it.

Stay tuned.
