Cal lost a game it should have won. The first problem was an inability to quickly adjust to an unexpected Ohio St. blitz package that featured a fifth defensive back in the first half. The second problem was running on 1st down for most of the first half. The third problem was not giving Brandon Bigelow the football more often. The fourth problem were a rash of poorly designed running plays where a running back gets a handoff when he should have got a pitch, thus causing him to be horribly behind his blockers and downed for a loss.
All of that added up to a bellyache of a game. What Cal did well was play. Cal Football has enough talent to play with anyone; the issue is getting the players in the right position to consistently win. Coach Tedford can do this, and should be happy that, at least, he’s discovered just what this Cal Football team is capable of.
GO BEARS!
Stay tuned.
