Ignacio De La Fuente Will Lose To Rebecca Kaplan In At-Large Race

“Ignacio De La Fuente Will Lose To Rebecca Kaplan” – there, I said it. That’s the first thing that came out of my head, aside from being insulted that he and his aides didn’t invite me to Ignacio’s Thursday City Hall steps shin-dig to tell Oakland that he was going to run against Rebecca – but I believe it.

I thought Ignacio, who I personally like, was going to run for Mayor in 2014, but the problem is that he’s still got a large, huge, list of negatives that will come back to haunt him in this election. It’s not enough to be critical of Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, which he has been, but let’s face it: Jeans’ an easy target. Rebecca less so, by far.

What’s Ignacio going to run on? Being Chairman of The Oakland – Alameda County Coliseum Complex Authority? The same one that many sports industry figures say – and I say – should be blown up? The same one that the Golden State Warriors launched an entire, and stupid, attempt to build a new arena in San Francisco because they were tired of dealing with them?

In fairness, Ignacio can rest on a long list of development accomplishments he was part of, from the restoration of the Fox Theater to the return of The Raiders to Oakland. But even here, I can hear you screaming about the cost overruns associated with both projects – more negatives.

What’s Ignacio going to run against Rebecca on? Is he going to address her lifestyle – if he does that, he’s a goner. Period. One even veiled mention in that direction will get him cognitively booted from the minds of Oaklanders.

See, Ignacio’s problem is that, unlike Rebecca, he doesn’t read “contemporary” – he’s from another time and the moment someone ties him to, er, Don Perata, again, the negatives start piling up.

Jean Quan was a better target. This was one move by Ignacio I’ll have to say was just plain stupid. He’s not going to win.

Sorry Ignacio. I love ya brother, but I gotta tell it like it is.

Stay tuned.
