Oakland, CA – Approximately one year ago, a committed, impassioned group of area citizens and business owners organized to keep the Oakland Raiders professional football team intact and in Oakland, citing potential harm to the local economy among their grievances. Their efforts did not result in the team staying rather the overwhelming majority of NFL owners voted to relocate the Raiders to Las Vegas.
Daunted but not deterred, the group’s efforts ensued, resulting in an increased groundswell of support and interest from a wide range of participants–many with resources and influence.
Subsequently, the (December 2017) decision by the Missouri Circuit Court 22nd Judicial Court (City of St. Louis) connected to the relocation of the former St. Louis Rams to Los Angeles, left the City of St. Louis in arrears, giving way to legal precedent in next steps from Oakland community organizers.
Next steps will be announced during a news conference with We Stand with Oakland spokesperson Raymond Bobbitt, joined by key participants, who will address:
· The St. Louis, MO Legal advantage against the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL regarding relocation
· Interest from a number of world class law firms offering to represent Alameda County under a Full Contingency Agreement, which will allow Alameda County to explore legal options regarding the Raiders and The NFL, without financial risk to the taxpayers
· Through legal exploration, Alameda County can secure funding to cure the current bond debt and, retire the annual interest from said bond debt
· Alameda County can keep professional football in Oakland and/or retain license to secure a professional football franchise in Oakland, a municipality fully equipped to house an NFL team
· Alameda County would include professional football as an anchor to complete the Coliseum Specific Plan
