Elbo Room Bar Oakland Will Be First Good Jack London Square Nightclub In Years

The Elbo Room is a famous bar and nighclub in San Francisco that, for years, has entertained visitors to the Mission District. Well, now Oakland will get its version of The Elbo Room, and in Jack London Square. According to a posting that was published by @amoration on Twitter, the new Elbo Room will be located at 311 Broadway, near Jack London Square. The location was the home of The Night Light, and the website now reads “Thanks for the good times. More to come.”

The application for the license was placed by Zales and Plissken LLC, which has no website to its name.

The news of the arrival of the The Elbo Room, represents another representation of the San Francisco-caused gentrification of Oakland. Many former San Franciscans have made Oakland their new home in search of cheaper rents – they say. That’s also true for businesses, but in the case of The Elbo Room, the Oakland facility does not at all mean the SF one is closing. The Elbo Room is just expanding to meet demand for a night club in that part of Oakland.

Indeed, Oakland has less than the number of nighclubs and dancing places its population demands. Moreover, this has been an Oakland theme for the last 35 years. To boost the nighttime activity, the Oakland City Council voted to move Yoshi’s from Rockridge to Jack London Square and create a cabaret district down there in 1994. Now, after 24 years, Yoshi’s will have some company.
