Very sad news today. Pioneer female journalist Marie Covin of the London Times was killed in Syria.

According to CBS News Lara Logan, Covin was in Syria to get what Logan said was a first-person view of what was going on there. CNN’s Arwa Damon said that Covin was someone other journalists looked up to.

The Telegraph UK reports that Covin said she’s never seen anything like what she experienced in Homs.

“Sickening, cannot understand how the world can stand by and I should be hardened by now,” she wrote, going on to describe the death of a baby from shrapnel wounds in front of her.

Also Rami al-Said, a 26-year-old citizen journalist was killed while filming the death’s of four people. Logan says that the Syrian Government is trying to send a message to not only silence the media, but to scare the media.
