AFC and NFC Championship: New England Over Baltimore, NY Giants Over SF Niners

Today the AFC and NFC Championship Games have started and right now, as of this writing, the Baltimore Ravens Joe Flacco just got sacked by the New England Patriots’ Nosetackle Vince Wilfork. I think the Pats will win because the offense has used the same short-passing approach employed during their 2007 season, where the Pats were one game from being perfect.

The 2011 New England Patriots set records for passing, with Tom Brady joining New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees in throwing for over 5,000 yards and breaking Dan Marino’s 27-year-old record.

But as I write this, the Pats are also doing something I didn’t think they would do: run on the Ravens. UPDATE: New England scored the first touchdown of the game and lead 10 to 3 in the 2nd quarter. But the Ravens now have a 1st and goal.

And just scored. Tie game. Wow.

NY Giants Over SF Niners

As much as I want this not to happen, I think the New York Giants are going to beat the San Francisco 49ers this afternoon. The reason is the pattern of the NY Giants under Head Coach Tom Coughlin: teams the G-men have lost to during the regular season, then faced in the playoffs or the Super Bowl, they’ve beaten.

That happened last week against the Green Bay Packers. Indeed, the Giants blew them out of the stadium.

But anything could happen.

Stay tuned.
