Teddy Bridgewater Highlights Minnesota Vikings 2014 NFL Draft Interview Teddy Bridgewater Highlights Minnesota Vikings 2014 NFL Draft Interview
Teddy Bridgewater, the Louisville star QB, became the last QB taken, and one of three, in the 1st Round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Minnesota Vikings traded to get back into the 1st Round, and hire the record-setting signal caller who was the projected top NFL Draft quarterback last November. Then, a so-so pro-day, and an orchestrated media attack, forced his stock down, but not so much that he avoided being taken in the 1st Round.
Here’s the transcript of the interview:
Q. How do you feel?
TEDDY BRIDGEWATER: I feel relieved. It’s a long night. I’m glad that it’s finally over, ready to get my career started with the Minnesota Vikings.
Q. What did the Vikings say to you on the phone?
BRIDGEWATER: I got the call from Rick Spielman, and he basically said, “I told you we were going to get you. Sorry we had to make you wait a little, but it happened.”
Q. How much do you know about the Vikings organization?
BRIDGEWATER: I have a brief, short understanding of their history, but I can tell you about the team they have now. For one, the best running back in the National Football League and a great group of wide receivers. Just a great offensive line, great quarterback position, guys playing quarterback position.
And the defensive side of the ball are very young, a bunch of draft picks in recent years. So I feel that it’s the perfect place for a quarterback.
Q. Do you feel like you can be the quarterback that helps Adrian Peterson get a Super Bowl?
BRIDGEWATER: Yes, I definitely feel that I can be that guy. I’ll be able to show that I’m that guy, and I can show the coaching staff that I’m the best guy at the position.
Q. Do you expect to start?
BRIDGEWATER: I can’t even tell you that. I expect to start when I can show that I’m the best quarterback on the roster.
Q. Did you enjoy it the last couple of days?
BRIDGEWATER: It was ‑‑ tonight in the green room, it was pretty nerve‑racking because I had a feeling that I was going to Minnesota based off the predraft experiences, but I didn’t know when. I thought I was going to be at 8, but after they traded the pick and drafted Anthony Barr, it was like, whoa, what’s going to happen?
But this entire process has been great. Being around a group of guys that are in this draft class, there are some great guys on the field but even better guys off the field.
Q. So when did Rick tell you he was going to take you?
BRIDGEWATER: He never told me when he would take me, but I told him when he was up in Minnesota that I wanted to be a Viking, and I wanted to be a Viking bad because it would be like quarterback heaven. When you come to an offense with a great offensive line, great running back, great group of wide receivers, great guys at the tight end position, it’s like, hey, now you have a bunch of weapons that help you out, also.
Q. What are your impressions about Norv Turner and the system and maybe the vibe you might have with him as a coordinator?
BRIDGEWATER: Number one, Coach Norv and I established a relationship prior to Pro Day. He’s a great guy. He’s coached some great players under his belt. I feel like he’s going to do great things with not only myself but this entire organization.
We were able to establish our relationship. The system that he’s running, I feel like I can walk in right away and just begin to play and prosper in that system.
I was able to get a brief understanding of the concepts that they’re going to be running, and I have a somewhat understanding of it.
