TMZ’s Harvey Levin Says They Held Donald Sterling Racist Tapes For Eight Days

Harvey-Levin-of-TMZ.com-001 TMZ’s Harvey Levin, the mastermind behind the Three-Mile-Zone media concept, just said that the organization held on to the Donald Sterling Racist Tapes for eight days before releasing them last Saturday. “We got the audio 8 days before we posted it,” Mr. Levin said, then taking the time to make sure the audio was authentic before posting it.

The Donald Sterling Racist Tapes have shocked and rocked the NBA, and there’s a good chance the result will be that Mr. Sterling is stripped of ownership of his sports organization.

What’s not reported is how the tape came to be in TMZ’s possession.

It’ widely known that while TMZ will not pay for interviews, it does pay for videos, photos, and audio recordings like the Donald Sterling tape. But just how much they paid or who they paid remains a mystery.

Donald Sterling’s girlfriend said that she did not give the tapes to a media outlet. That’s not a swipe at TMZ, which is a media outlet, but an indication that whoever got hold of the tapes then turned around and contacted TMZ, and then, later, Deadspin.

Stay tuned.
