President Obama Thanks Veterans From USS Carl Vinson

On Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama took time to talk about the need to help American Veterans as much as they have helped us around the World.

He gave his video address from the aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego. Last night, it played host to a historic first: the first college basketball game played on an aircraft carrier.

Here’s President Obama’s speech:

The main problem is that, according to one estimate, 11.5 percent of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans are unemployed. As the president remarked on the overall plight of returning veterans to a poor-performing economy, that’s not at all acceptable.

That’s one reason the Senate passed a bill that gives a $9,600 tax credit to those businesses who employ disabled veterans. but to this blogger, the effort needs to go a step beyond that; the government should have a placement clearing house to place all war veterans in some kind of government job around the country.

Stay tuned.
