PG&E Arraignment Today: San Bruno Explosion & Fire Criminal Case

PG&E, Pacific Gas And Electric, will be arraigned in U.S. District Court on Monday and will learn of the formal felony criminal charges against it stemming from the fatal Sept. 9, 2010 pipeline explosion and fire in San Bruno. According to local news reports, PG&E is expected to enter a plea of not guilty.

Representatives from the City of San Bruno will be present to respond to Pacific Gas And Electric’s plea and to slam PG&E’s ongoing response to the criminal charges it faces.

The U.S. Attorney’s office filed criminal findings against Pacific Gas And Electric for 12 violations of federal safety rules that caused the death of eight, injured 66 and leveled an entire neighborhood.

Multiple civil investigations have found PG&E’s tragic explosion to be entirely man-made and the result of PG&E’s willful decision to divert pipeline safety funds and use them for executive compensation and shareholder returns for many decades – findings that have now resulted in the criminal indictment.

On Sept. 9, 2010, a Pacific Gas & Electric gas pipeline explosion ripped through the City of San Bruno, killing eight, injuring 66, destroying 38 homes and damaging scores more. Since the tragedy – one of the worst pipeline disasters in U.S. history — San Bruno has been involved in every step of the ongoing penalty process at the CPUC to ensure that the CPUC not only holds PG&E and its shareholders accountable but also provides oversight critical so that what happened in San Bruno never happens again, anywhere.
