Just because the NFL Lockout is still active, doesn’t mean we’re without NFL news. It’s just that the info’s not pretty. This blogger’s come up from his cave of work to learn that New England Patriots Linebacker Mike Vrabel’s announced his retirement, and will become linebacker coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes. In other words, Vrabel’s going to do what he can to help revive the suddenly wrecked shambles of a once-great and storied college football program. Whatever happens, if Ohio State does well this season, like goes undefeated, it will be the best feel-good story of the year. There are too many people who want to see that happen.
But I digress.
Dancing With The Stars winner and Pittsburgh Steelers all-around good-guy wide receiver Hines Ward got pinched for a DUI, thus joining a club that includes former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Bucs Head Coach, now ESPN dude, Jon Gruden, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, several politicians, and me. The club of “be careful not to drink and drive because everyone’s watching you.” Welcome to the club Hines! You’re a good dude, and no one can compare you to Pac Man Jones.
Which reminds me.
Pac Man Jones was arrested too! Man. See, Baltimore Ravens NFL Legend Linebacker Ray Lewis was right! There would be more crime if the NFL Lockout continued – I just don’t think he had Pac Man in mind. (Oh, the reason Adam “Pac Man” Jones is called “Pac Man” is for his ability to cover any wide receiver so well, it’s as if he were gobbled up by Pac Man.)
According to Fox Sports:
Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was arrested Sunday in Cincinnati on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated and resisting arrest, adding to the list of off-the-field troubles that have marred his career.
That’s sad – BUT. If you read this carefully, from Pac Man’s explanation, it looks like the Cincinnati Police Officer may have written a false police report. Pac Man said:
“I just had surgery, so why would I be resisting arrest?” said Jones, who was wearing a neck brace. He’s been recovering from a neck injury last fall that required surgery, but he was expecting to play this year.
He said he hadn’t been drinking and was out with his wife to celebrate her birthday.
“It’s ridiculous, man,” he told the TV station. “I keep on going through the same thing, and it don’t make no sense.” He also apologized to his fans and said he loves Cincinnati.
“Only thing I can do is be me and do what I’m supposed to do, but I was not yelling at the police. I did not yell profanity at the police. And at the end of the day… I’m the bad guy.”
No, Pac Man. Not this time. Given the alarming number of false arrests by police in major cities, news that has become more prevalent because of new media, the police officer making the arrest should be investigated. Hopefully, NFL Commissioner Goodell ask for that to happen, too.
Stay tuned.
