The Trans Bay Transit Center for San Francisco and The Bay Area. How’s it progressing? Here’s an update from the headquarters for what will be the largest facility of its kind in the West Coast, if not America.

Weekday Work (10/28/13 – 11/1/13):

Night Shift:

Transit Center Construction Activity:

Western Transit Center Site (Between First and Second Streets): This week the installation of rebar is scheduled daily between the hours of 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM the next day, including reinforcing steel delivery daily between 3:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Waterproofing, electrical conduits, plumbing and the installation of rebar are scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM. General maintenance of equipment, material deliveries and clean-up will also be performed between the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Trucks and equipment will enter from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Central Transit Center Site (Between Fremont and First Streets): This week excavation, trucking and welding of cross lot steel bracing on the eastern end is scheduled daily between the hours of 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM. General maintenance of equipment, material deliveries, and clean-up will also be performed between the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): This week demolition of the surface level concrete will continue daily, during the day shift only, between the hours of 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM resulting in increased vibration and noise. Excavation, trucking and welding of cross lot steel bracing on the eastern end is scheduled daily between the hours of 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM. General maintenance of equipment, material deliveries and clean-up will also be performed between the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at Beale Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Fremont Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): This week on Monday October 28, 2013 between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM, a large construction crane will cross Fremont Street from Central Transit Center Site to the Eastern transit center site. This work has been coordinated with SFMTA and must be performed at night. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians.

Underground Utilities/Trenching Work

​Mission Street (Main Street to Fremont Street): Mission Street underground auxiliary water supply system piping is being upgraded (AWSS). This work has been coordinated with MUNI operations and must be performed at night. Next week our contractor is focused on the intersection of Mission and Main Street. This work is scheduled Monday through Friday night from 7:30 PM to the next morning at 5.30 AM. Impact tools and cutting of asphalt concrete will be performed between 7.30 PM to 10.00 PM for the next week due to noise permit requirements. This work will take place on Mission Street from Monday October 28, 2013 and continue weekly until December 20, 2013. Work will resume in January and continue into the first quarter of 2014.

What to Expect Next Weekend (Saturday 11/2/13– Sunday 11/3/13):

Western Transit Center Site (Between First and Second Streets): The next pour of structural concrete will take place in the Western Transit Center site Saturday November 2. Traffic may be impacted occasionally Friday night Saturday November 1 beginning at 10:00 PM and ending Saturday November 2 at 10:00 PM due to this major pour of structural concrete. Concrete trucks will queue along Howard Street, First Street and Second Streets. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. There will be general construction work and clean up scheduled for Sunday November 3 during the day shift including general maintenance of equipment, equipment and material deliveries.

Central Transit Center Site (Between Fremont and First Streets): This weekend there are no construction activities scheduled. However, general maintenance of equipment, equipment and material deliveries and site clean-up is scheduled on Saturday November 2 between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets):This weekend there are no construction activities scheduled. However, general maintenance of equipment, equipment and material deliveries and site clean-up is scheduled on Saturday November 2 between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at Beale Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Detours, Street and Sidewalk Closures:

The following streets will be temporarily impacted due to project activities. So you can plan ahead, please review the affected streets below:

Mission Street (Main Street to Fremont Street) adjacent to 301 Mission: Mission Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction of the underground auxiliary water supply system piping. Main Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): Main Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction of the underground auxiliary water supply system piping. This work has been coordinated with MUNI operations and must be performed at night. Next week our contractor is focused on the intersection of Mission and Main Street. This work is scheduled Monday through Friday night from 7:30 PM to the next morning at 5.30 AM.

First Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): First Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks entering and exiting construction gates. Construction flaggers and SFPD 10B Officers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. There is now an additional traffic light activated on Fremont Street mid-block between Howard and Mission Streets – commuters and pedestrians should be prepared to stop. Pedestrians will continue to use west sidewalk of the temporary bridge between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.

Fremont Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets):This week on Monday October 28, 2013 between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM, a large construction crane will cross Fremont Street from Central Transit Center Site to the Eastern transit center site. This work has been coordinated with SFMTA and must be performed at night. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians.

This week starting Monday October 28, 2013 the installation of underground low voltage utilities is scheduled daily between the hours of 9:00 AM to 3:00PM. Fremont Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction of the underground low voltage utilities. Construction flaggers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. There is now an additional traffic light activated on Fremont Street mid-block between Howard and Mission Streets – commuters and pedestrians should be prepared to stop. Pedestrians will continue to use west sidewalk of the temporary bridge between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.

Beale Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): Beale Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates onto Beale Street. Construction flaggers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. Pedestrians will continue to use east sidewalk between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.

Natoma Street (Between Fremont and First Streets): Natoma Street (between Fremont and First Streets) has been reduced to one lane, one way (west bound), all vehicles will enter from Fremont Street and exit at First Street. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.

Natoma Street (Between First and Second Streets): Natoma Street (between First and Second Streets) has been changed to a dead end street for the life of the project with no vehicle access through Natoma Street from Second Street. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.

Minna Street (Between First and Second Streets): Minna Street has been reduced to one lane, one way (west bound), all vehicles will enter from First Street and exit at Second Street. There will be no parking along Minna Street between First Street and 130 feet east of Second Street for the life of the project. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.
