Stanford Football For Real, Beats USC In 3 OT Thriller

One look at the Google Trends shows “Stanford Football” as one of the top five search terms, and within that, at least as of this writing, the top three news results all from the website of The San Francisco Chronicle, and not one of them from this blogger (which will change once I work my magic).

That can only mean SFGate.com News Director and Stanford alum Vlae Kershner now, finally gets what this space has said for some time: Stanford Football is for real.

So, undoubtedly high from an amazing and gutty Stanford 56 to 48, 3 OT win over USC that normally would give this Old Blue a belly ache, Kershner pulled out the stops and launched the troops to write and blog about the Stanford Cardinal.

Welcome to the bandwagon, Mr. Kershner. It was a hell of a game. A contest that ended for USC on this play:

The 56 points were the most ever allowed by USC. The win gives The Cardinal a 16-game winning streak and now the question is this: can Stanford go undefeated and become national champions?

Stanford has three tough games coming up: Oregon St., Oregon, and then Cal. I’m not too confident my sturdy Golden Bears can give Stanford a game of it, because we (yes “we” not “they”) were pasted 31 to 17 by UCLA yesterday.

My tummy hurts.
