Ballpark Vote, a well-done website by Brant Cebulla, Karl Schumann , and Claire Dierksen, allows the Internet-going public to weigh in on the discussion around the need for a new stadium for the Oakland A’s, by voting for one of the current site choices:
Howard Terminal, on the water in Oakland
Coliseum City, where the current Coliseum sits
Estuary Waterfront Project, also on the water in Oakland
Cisco Field, in San Jose next to the Pavilion
Raley Field, in Sacramento where the AAA Rivercats play
According to Newballpark blog, the Ballpark Vote site has been up for about three weeks, but when I first visited it this week, Cisco Field was in the lead, and the first choice of the plans.
While some thought this was the result of some kind of San Jose communist plot, I figured it was just the logical outcome of placing the sites in alphabetical order. You know, where “Ci” comes before “Co” and “C” comes before “H,” which comes before “E” and “R”?
Given that, and the rather annoying fact that the rendering for the Cisco Field proposal is more lifelike and attractive than that for Howard Terminal, and you had Cisco out in front.
Then, Howard Terminal fans united as one, and that site’s in the lead.
So, basically, what we have is not so much a vote on a site, as a pretty pictures contest.
And what just may be a faulty voting system that locks out an IP address once the person at that location has voted.
Stay tuned.
