Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders Head Coach On Pass Interference Rules At 2019 NFL Meeting
Jon Gruden said that its impossible to get pass interference rules right because of “human error.” That was part of a lively conversation at the 2019 NFL Annual Meeting, during Coach Jon Gruden’s Tuesday morning press conference that Zennie62Media’s Zennie Abraham attended.
Coach Gruden and his fellow NFL Head Coaches had considered and voted on a number of proposals advanced in the wake of the no-call pass interference play that had a pivotal role in the outcome of the 2019 NFC Championship Game pitting the visiting L.A. Rams against the host New Orleans Saints.
The eventual decision by NFL Owners was to adopt a rule that “For one year only, expands the reviewable plays in Instant Replay to include pass interference, called or not called on the field. Also expands automatic replay reviews to include scoring plays and turnovers negated by a foul, and any Try attempt (extra point or two-point conversion).”
