Bohemian Club Marks 100th Anniversary Of Monte Rio Variety Show

The Bohemian Club, the San Francisco institution where this blogger has enjoyed excellent bourbon and conversation, is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the crazy Monte Rio Variety Show at the Russian River.

The Monte Rio Variety Show started in 1911 as a way for Bohemian Club members camping at The Bohemian Grove, the club’s retreat near Monte Rio, California, to share their talents, raise money for charitable causes, and express their appreciation for the California Russian River community.

The Bohemian Club event has drawn a number of U.S. Presidents and Senators, CEO’s, and entertainment legends like Ray Bolger, Art Linkletter, Merv Griffin, Bing Crosby and Phil Harris.

This year’s Monte Rio Variety Show is on July 28th. A pre-show barbeque, (yum) hosted by the Monte Rio Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, starts at 4:30 p.m – that calls for a separate fee from the one for the show.

As for the Monte Rio Variety Show, Tickets start at $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 13 to 17, kids at 12 and under get in free with paid adult admission. Ticket reservations can be made by sending a check to Monte Rio Variety Show, care-off P.O. Box 218, Monte Rio, CA 95462. If you have questions, just call 707-865-2234 or check out the website: http://www.monterioshow.org.

All monies raised help the St. Catherine’s Church, the Monte Rio School Foundation, and the Monte Rio Fire Services Foundation.

Bring a lawn chair, a blanket, and an empty stomach. It’s going to be fun.
