Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M’s offensive tackle who is ranked as the best player in the NFL Draft on many boards, gave an interview that helped to further explain the difference between conventional pass blocking and the new “vertical set” passing blocking that’s becoming the staple of the Airraid Offense system, and could take over the NFL.

Luke Joeckel says that basically, the new way, brought in by Texas A&M Head Coach Kevin Sumlin, is better for picking up stunts and blitzes than the more conventional process of the lineman putting his hand down in a three-point stance – with this system “you’re vertical most of the time” he said at the NFL Play 60 event.

When I think of Luke Joeckel, the word “technician” comes to mind, as he’s one who understands the subtle differences in blocking form and what they are valuable for and not valuable for.

Stay tuned.
