Rick Santorum Wins Louisiana, And The John Birch Conservative Vote

Rick Santorum giving his now famous racist rant in Iowa
Remember when Rick Santorum had dinner with the White Nationalist at CPAC this year? That was what helped him win the Louisiana Primary for 2012. Because the turnout to vote was so poor, all the Louisiana GOP was left with were ultra conservative John Birch society types so pissed off with being led by a black man in President Obama they came out to vote – and almost no one else.

The 186,000 total voters was far less than just the 220,000 who voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 Louisiana Primary, and Santorum captured almost 50 percent of that crowd on Saturday.

The GOP can’t get excited: Louisiana’s voting population is 1,750,550, and 31 percent are black.

What does that say for Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, who certain thought this was going to be his point of resurgence? It says that Romney is still comfortably ahead in terms of delegates, but isn’t going to run away with the race and nail down the nomination yet. It says that Newt Gingrich just plain can’t close the deal absent some scandal, real or imagined, that can turn the tables in his favor.

It also says the GOP’s just not delivering the right message.
