NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre Press Conference

This is the full video of the NRA Press Conference featuring NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre. This blogger felt it best to post the video of the press conference before responding to what others said Wayne LaPierre said. Here’s the video:

Wayne LaPierre is correct about violent video games like “Kindergarden Killers” being part of the problem, as well as the overall culture of violence in America. But the disconnect is that all of the signs of violence in pop culture actually fuels gun use, so failing to control gun use but curbing the signs he’s talking about, will not reduce gun use.

LaPierre glorifies guns at the same time he puts down a pop culture that also glorifies guns – that does not make sense at all.

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” until the good guy become a bad guy, that is. But that said, having armed guards at a school is something that’s needed. But we also need a ban on assault weapons.

Mentioning Obama Was Inappropriate

Wayne LaPierre owes President Obama an apology for mentioning him three times in his speech as being protected by armed secret service agents. Mr. LaPierre seemed to be pointing to the issue of the President’s safety, but why do that? That’s the question every reporter – heck, everyone – should ask Wayne LaPierre.

In all, what good did the speech do?

It just pissed everyone off – formost among them the families of the victims of Sandy Hook.
