In the wake of the sacking of The 790 The Zone morning show in the wake of the Steave Gleason ALS Prank, Steak Shapiro managed to keep his Atlanta Eats show, which airs on CBS Atlanta, but the same can’t be said for his 790 AM The Zone Mayhem In The AM partner Nick Cellini, who lost his weekly sports show on CSS called Dantanna’s Late Shift, and there’s no word on Chris Dimino as of this writing.
CSS released this statement:
“We apologize to our viewers who were offended by the grossly inappropriate and insensitive comments made during Monday’s simulcast airing of 790 The Zone’s Mayhem in the AM program, and want to make clear that the opinions and actions of the radio hosts do not reflect those of our network. In addition to prohibiting these commentators from appearing in any future simulcasts, Nick Cellini will no longer be appearing on presentations of Dantanna’s Late Shift.”
Dantanna’s Late Shift Moves On
Dantanna’s Late Shift, named for the famed Buckhead eatery, moved on without Nick Cellini, replacing him with a lawyer named Ray Guidice.
Meanwhile, Nick Cellini talks like he’s a happy guy, telling Atlanta blogger Rodney Ho that “That station is a sinking ship.” Nick told Rodney that the lack of advertising was the problem and they “had to stretch things out between commercials,” for that reason.
Later, Cellini sent this follow-up note to Mr. Ho:
The comments that I made during the interview about Lincoln Financial were made out of pure emotion, as a result of losing my job after 16 years with the station. They’ve been nothing but fair to me over the past three plus years since they purchased 790 The Zone.
These guys were the media sports kings in Atlanta. This period’s going to be a test for them, so let’s see how they pass it. Personally, I thought they should have been given a two-month break, but Ho reports that, with there low-six-figure salaries, 790 The Zone may have wanted an excuse to downsize spending – that means cheaper talent.
Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.
