NFL Owners Meeting: One Hour To Super Bowl Bid Winner News

NFLAs of this writing, it’s just one hour before the NFL announces the winner of the right to host Super Bowls L an LI, and the tension and excitement here is thick.

But with that, it feels like a win for the San Francisco 49ers and the SF Bay Area, especially if the smiles on the faces of Jed York and his father John York as they walked by me are any indication.

As of this writing the NFL Owners are having lunch, having finished the presentations. Now, it’s a matter of time – just a few more moments.

Until then, some news.

New England Patriots Owner Bob Kraft talked to the media and said that while he thinks the New England Region would be perfect for a Super Bowl, especially since New York’s hosting the next one, he would much prefer to see the Patriots back in the Super Bowl.

Dan Marino, the face of the Miami Super Bowl Bid, is not here, leaving many to conclude that the South Florida Super Bowl Bid effort is a lost cause – I’m not so sure about that. Remember, it’s not over, til it’s over.

I ran into former San Francisco Giants Enterprises head Pat Gallagher, who said that the SF Super Bowl Bid work “was tough,” and they had to do a lot of arm twisting to get people who manage hotels and other venues to realize that they were needed as part of the bid, otherwise there was no bid.

That’s exactly what I said in the Oakland Super Bowl Bid context.

Stay tuned.
