The Bank Of America in Oakland, California, and on Lake Park Avenue (down the street from the Grand Lake Theater) has an ATM that’s located in its parking lot, and next to the Kwik Way burger joint and Heart and Dagger Saloon.
The Oakland Police call the surroundings “Area 2.”
That ATM, the site of my video made as a “sample” for the 2007 CNN / YouTube Democratic Debates, is now officially a dangerous place to be. It was the focus on not one, but two robberies, and the robbers are still at large.
The first hold-up was reportedly on June 5th, at 7:45 PM. The second one was on June 6th at 8:05 PM.
There’s no description of the robber as of this writing. If you need to go to that ATM, go with a friend. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, but there are far too many instances where folks in that area walk alone.
Moreover, there are too many businesses, and too much traffic, around for that to happen. But that said, we need a security camera in that lot.
Between B of A, The Kwik Way, and Heart and Dagger, they can afford to have something installed there. Where’s the Lake Merritt Business Association in all of this?
