This Godzilla 2014 Update reports that the real Godzilla trailer will be released December 13th with the debut of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug. While that information was reported before, this blogger can explain that it’s now official news and from an entirely different source that Zennie62Media is not at liberty to reveal.

Godzilla stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Victor Rasuk, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, and Richard T. Jones, is directed by Gareth Edwards, produced by Yoshimitsu Banno, Alex Garcia , Jon Jashni, Kenji Okuhira, Mary Parent, Brian Rogers, Thomas Tull, Patricia Whitcher, and written by Max Borenstein and Dave Callaham from a story by David S. Goyer.

So far, the news about Godzilla’s following this blogger’s 2010 interview with Brian Rogers:

This news should put an end to the constant daily Twitter tweets of fake Godzilla trailers, particularly one that’s actually a collection of cut-ups from Pacific Rim.

This blogger’s concern is with the fact that when I mention that a Godzilla movie’s coming out in 2014, the reaction isn’t “I can’t wait,” but “another one” or “I didn’t know that.” Warner Bros is playing with fire in assuming that less is more with marketing – especially in a crowded social media environment.

But on the other hand there’s growing reason to suspect that the actual product itself is so good that the final view of a truly realistic Godzilla may just be the ultimate sell point for the movie. That, and the cast of Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen. If Warner Bros emphasizes the cast as much as Godzilla, more women will want to see the film, thus guaranteeing a larger box office result.

But Godzilla is the key.

Consider that in all of the history of Godzilla, there has never been a true attempt to make a real live non-campy Godzilla movie that respects the monster for what he is: a 400-foot-tall radioactive fire-breathing creature capable of leveling entire cities. To put a finer point on this, we’ve never seen a good GI Godzilla done such that the monster appears during the day and not at night – we’ll get that here.

In short, we’ll have the first true Godzilla for the 21st Century. A movie that brings back the primal fear we all have with anything of nature we don’t understand, can’t control, and can’t easily kill.

That’s Godzilla.

Stay tuned.
