I’ve always said that my intent is to show how others can video blog, and to communicate the idea that it’s easy, and not hard – as YouTube seems to be sending the message that it is, of late. (And causing people to spend more money on promoting videos, equipment, and then implying that I need to move to LA and be an actor. Nothing against my actor friends, but I wish YouTube would stop this.)

Well, my work has paid off in that at least one person has made a video-blog and said they were inspired by me. His name is Jon Page, and here’s his first video:

YouTube_51Video blogging need not be a complicated affair. It’s about self-expression. Over the years, my video-blogging has improved my self-esteem by leaps and bounds, and has given a lot to me in other ways.

Renetto Inspired Me

As I was Jon Page’s inspiration, Renetto (Paul Robinett) was mine. He talked to you through his camcorder, sometimes for a good 8 to 10 minutes. But what was important is that he and others like KenRG helped launch the era of vlogs as conversation – something that YouTube has since all but killed. Here’s my vlog from 2006 on the Loneygirl controversy. That’s when it was revealed that Loneygirl15 was not a real person, but an actress.

That was a historic point in the growth of videos as shows and not just vlogs.

And then Renetto does things like this:

Not me.

But Renetto let you know what he was thinking. And that’s one thing I’m going to do more of is just plain free expression, rather than just my commercialized style.

Practice makes perfect.

And thanks Jon. That video of yours made my day!
