The news updates regarding the California Assembly District 18 Race keep coming in, so without any delay, here’s what I’ve got.

Abel Guillen won another straw poll, this one held by the Wellstone Democratic Club, and he did so in smashing fashion. Mr. Guillen rang up 44 votes to 7 for Rob Bonta, and none for Joel Young. Recall that Abel also took the Democrats For America Straw Poll that was held two weeks ago, and thanks to his aide Winnie’s speaking ability, Abel clobbered Bonta – well Bonta’s reps – convincingly there, too.

Bonta Raises KaChing

But Alameda Councilman and Vice Mayor Rob Bonta just keeps raising coin, cash, money, kaChing, or whatever you want to call it – dough. Like Joel Young, Rob’s taken to sending emails to this blogger, so here’s the transmission:

WE OUTRAISED OUR OPPONENTS ONCE AGAIN!

The campaign topped its competitors in overall fundraising and for the period that ended March 17th. This is the second consecutive period where the campaign has outraised all of its opponents.

The campaign raised over $76,000 since January 1, bringing the campaign’s total raised to more than $237,000 with over $142,000 on hand. Excluding loans, the campaign has the most cash on hand, placing it in a commanding position moving toward the June 5 2012 Primary Election.

Well, that does sorta explain Bonta’s tweet about St. Patty’s day:

@RobBonta
Had a wonderful time at last night’s St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser for the Eden Area United Democratic Campaign! http://pic.twitter.com/3gRE6D7z

Well, from the looks of the photo a lot of folks forgot their green – just saying.

Stay tuned.
