As many as seven of the Twitter Top Trends were connected to people and activities at this evening’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (SAG) ceremony, and with actress Viola Davis and her movie The Help taking top honors in more ways than one.
First, a big congratulations to Viola Davis for winning Outstanding Female Actress in a Female Role – Movies, Octavia Spencer as Outstanding Female Supporting Actress – Movies, and the cast of The Help which was picked as Best Ensemble Cast.
Second, a big thank you to Ms. Davis herself for glamming up the SAG Awards and Twitter with an Marchesa strapless gown that many described as “stunning” and “jaw-dropping” and sent Twitter on fire, pushing “Viola Davis” to as high at fourth place in the Twitter Top Ten Trends. A More Complicated Oscar Race
The Help‘s win for Best Picture would seem to complicate The Oscar Race, but the basic precursor of winner of the Best Director Award at the Director’s Guild holds as the predictor of the winner of Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars. This year, The Artist’s Director Michel Hazanavicius is that person, and thus his film’s still the favorite to take home Oscar: Best Picture.
Best Actor and Best Actress now has two front runners: Christopher Plummer and Viola Davis. I thought this was going to be George Clooney’s year, but (as happened with Up In The Air), it doesn’t look like it.
