49ers Beat Steelers, Win Candlestick Park Outage Bowl

The San Francisco 49ers played a whale of a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and overcame The Black and Gold’s QB Ben Rothlisberger, the Steelers’ Defense, and two power outages to win, 20 to 3.

Indeed, the 49ers first took control of the game with opportunistic defense that produced four turnovers, and then won it with slick and timely offensive schemes. This is a team that was clobbered, stomped on, and man-handled by the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving Day, and then outplayed by the Arizona Cardinals before this Monday Night Football Game.

Thanks to a rediscovery of the short passing game, the Niners were able to withstand the Steelers blitzes and consistenly find the open receiver, even if the pass wasn’t always caught.

Congratulations to the 49ers Defense, which failed to allow a rushing touchdown in 14 straight games – an NFL record. And Defensive Line Rookie Aldon Smith, who I met at the NFL Draft…

Has a team and NFL rookie record of 13 sacks and should be going to the 2012 Pro Bowl.

But now, he and the 49ers are happy to win this game – call it “The Outage Bowl.”

Stay tuned.
