City Of Oakland Police Commission Enabling Powers Ordinance Before City Council 3-20
On March 20th, The Oakland City Council will debate and then vote on decide an “enabling” legislation that provides structure and guidance for the implementation of Measure LL such as the requirements for Selection Panel members as well as the commission’s relation to the City Administrator. This ordinance creates a new independent Office of Inspector General.
What the ordinance does is give the Oakland Police Commission its collective “power teeth” so it has oversight of the Oakland Police Department.
